The German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze: "Within a decade, the German Ecodesign Award has developed into a renowned and coveted award. Its unique selling point is the well-founded ecological assessment of the submissions by experts from the German Environment Agency. I look forward to many participants in the anniversary year 2021.”

The German Federal Government's highest award for ecological design for the last ten years.

With the German Ecodesign Award, the German Ministry for the Environment and the German Environment Agency (UBA) in cooperation with the International Design Center Berlin have been promoting sustainable consumption since 2012. Since then, more than 2,500 submissions have been evaluated by a panel of experts in a multi-stage process, 269 entries have been nominated by the interdisciplinary jury and finally 91 outstanding projects have been awarded the design award.

UBA President Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner: "We are very pleased that the German Ecodesign Award has become so well established over the past 10 years. We use the award-winning works as best practice examples in the context of our work."

In order to conserve resources and the climate and ensure quality of life for future generations, we need designs that are suitable for everyday use and creative ideas on how sustainability can be lived. Competition entries can be submitted in the categories concept, service, product or young talent. What counts is an ecologically as well as aesthetically convincing design.

On the occasion of the anniversary, various activities are being planned around the jury meeting in September and the award ceremony on 6 December 2021 in order to spread the topic and the good examples from the competition.

Announcement of the award-winning projects.

On 6 December 2021, the winners of the competition will be announced at a festive award ceremony at the German Ministry for the Environment. Professional image trailers will be produced for all award-winning submissions, which will be made available to the winners and used for the competition's media work. In addition, the award-winning projects will be presented to the public in a travelling exhibition. The young talent awards are endowed with a sum of 1,000 Euros each.
